Sweeten Their Soul With Our Favorite Candy-Filled Sugar Cookie Recipe

The distinction between the Natural Soul and the G-dly Soul are an essential part of the BMC curriculum and topics that will carry on in future lessons.

Add a little levity to what could be a serious discussion by baking some yummies to send home (and snack on).

Our Let Your Soul Shine Cookies show the glow of their inner soul while engaging them in a fun activity.

Let Your Soul Shine Cookie Recipe

Ingredients
·  2/3 cup butter (or margarine)
·  1 cup white sugar
·  1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
·  2 eggs
·  3 cups all-purpose flour
·  2 teaspoons baking powder
·  1/2 teaspoon salt
·  1/3 cup milk (can substitute with either soymilk or orange juice)
·  40 fruit flavored hard candies

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease
cookie sheets.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter (or margarine) and
sugar. Stir in vanilla and eggs.
3. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt;
add to egg mixture alternately with milk (or soy milk). (You
can purchase pre-sifted flour to save time).

4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough 1/4 inch thick.
Using a gingerbread man-type cookie cutter, cut out shapes
and put on a well-buttered baking sheet.
5. Cut a small hole in the center of each cookie cutout.
6. Keeping the colors separate, place candy in plastic bags and
crush with a meat mallet. Place crushed candies inside
window frames.
7. Bake for six minutes, or until candy is just melted. (While baking,
you can add more candy to fill the hole, if necessary). Cool on
baking sheet for 5 minutes, until candy is hard. Carefully lift
cookies off baking sheet with spatula.

HOW TO PULL IT OFF

START WITH THE RIGHT INVITE

Get your girls excited about their upcoming bake-fest by mailing them one of our fun, colorful, and customizable meeting invitations. Our Essential Invites correspond with the lessons in The BMC Essentials handbook. For this particular meeting, use Get to Know Your Souls, but  you can use these invites for many meetings.

WEAR THE RIGHT GEAR

While it’s not necessary to have the girls decked out in BMC gear, it sure looks cool! It also keeps their clothes clean. Considering you’ll be baking and crafting all year long, consider the BMC Apron a wise — and stylish — investment for your members.

GATHER THE INGREDIENTS

Assemble the necessary ingredients and utensils before the girls arrive to make the transition for discussion to baking as seamless as possible.

DIVIDE AND SMASH

Now comes the REALLY fun part. Get out some aggression with a meat mallet (a hammer will work too). Put the candies in double baggies  and put a towel on top of them. This will keep the candies from putting holes in the plastic. Now pound away until the candies have been crushed!

ROLL AND CUT

Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Using a gingerbread man-type cookie cutter, cut out the dough and place on a well-greased baking sheet (parchment paper will work too). Then, cut a small circle (larger than a dime) in the center of each cookie dough cutout.

ADD THE CANDY

Place the crushed candies in the holes. Typically, this works better when you use one color per hole, but if your girls want to get artistic, by all means let them.

BAKE AND COOL

Bake for six minutes, or until candy is just melted. Make sure to let the cookies cool on a baking sheet for 5 minutes, until candy is hard. Carefully lift cookies off baking sheet with spatula.

SEND THEM HOME IN STYLE

Our BMC Bags are the perfect take-home container for these sweet creations. If you plan to have the girls gift them to a parent (or other loved one), wrap the cookies in waxed paper, place in the bag and add a bit of color with some bright tissue paper.
